I'm generally aware that there's a world of entertainment that includes ice zombies and protectors of the universe. I'm just a bit too far out of the loop at this point to really keep up. My pop culture references will just have to continue to be lines from my favorite Seinfeld episodes. So, for those of you who've watched all the blockbuster movies and television shows, please no spoiler alerts. While I have this brief moment between episodes, quick, here's a round of knowledge from the Salesforce community! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today!

With just a simple swipe, check-in attendees and have their attendance recorded in your Salesforce instance! Last week's PUB Crawl, with its breaking news from Salesforce world, had the highest click-through rates we've ever seen. As we're looking forward to hearing more from Salesforce during the next week on the topic of the merger, I'll let this topic rest for a week while taking in that great, speedy, American pastime called baseball. Ah yes, it must be spring time in the US capital city. With the Salesforce World Tour rolling through our backyard soon, and pollen so thick in the air my eyes water thinking about it, it seems we're finally wrestling out of the cold weather's grasp in North America. Which is perfect, because we've got another NPSP Day on the calendar, and continuing to add more, and I could use a nice string of delay-free travel! Dry those allergy irritated eyes, and let's walk through this week's Salesforce community knowledge and news. As your organization evaluates all the different options available for Salesforce event registration apps, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the options. Just when you thought your event was ready for showtime, there’s a wide variety of online event registration steps you need to take into account. From ticketing to check-in, it’s a seemingly endless set of options for you to choose for the best Salesforce event registration tool for your needs. Here I was thinking, "oh man, big story...the new Power of Us Hub using the Lightning experience is really looking good" was going to be the obvious top headline for today's PUB Crawl. But then, I read the following this afternoon in this press release: "Salesforce will pay a one-time cash purchase price of $300 million for all shares of Salesforce.org..." Woah. For folks that don't know the background, Salesforce.org was born out of a foundation called the Salesforce Foundation. Salesforce.org has been the exclusive reseller of Salesforce licenses for the non-profit and education communities. As shared on the investor conference call today (which I actually listened to), Salesforce noted that a $13B addressable market in the sectors supported by Salesforce.org. I've been around the Salesforce ecosystem since 2005, so I've seen pretty much everything in the past 14 years. I'll leave it to folks in the Power of Us Hub to discuss the ramifications (who's going to start that thread?), but I think this is probably one of the most important collective discussions our community will have in our history together. I have faith that Salesforce will stay true to its focus on philanthropy (i.e. the $300M distribution of funds from the purchase to the Salesforce Foundation). When I hear Salesforce.com leaders and investors the opportunity for investors and talk about monetizing their investment in our community, I have faith that non-profiteers will continue to provide candid feedback to Salesforce in this new era. A critical way for nonprofits to boost fundraising is by increasing their donation page conversion rate. A higher conversion rate for your online fundraising pages means that a greater percentage of those visiting your page are submitting your donation form and giving you a gift. But how do you successfully increase your donation page conversion rate? Here are nine tips you can use to increase the effectiveness of your online fundraising forms. It's funny how life can change so quickly in just 24 hours. After not taking a sick day since high school, soon after sending last week's PUB Crawl I found myself checking my temperature every hour for days. Worse, this all happened hours before my flights to NPSP Day Cape Town. Luckily, our awesome community members Sam Vos and Annakie Gammon stepped up and ran a fantastic NPSP Day for the South African community while I was stuck at home! So while I continue down the road to recovery, join me as I slowly lift an effervescent glass of vitamin infused water and toast Sam and Annakie. Now, let's see what happened last week while I was out of commission. Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! After a full week away from the friendly confines of the Soapbox Engage offices, it was nice to spend the week back in DC. Best yet, it was a chance for me to attend our local non-profit user group meeting while prepping for days of Nandos eating later this week (thanks Salesforce for the user group food!). As I get ready to prepare myself for back-to-back redeye flights en route to our second NPSP Day Cape Town later this week, allow me to get out of the way and deliver this week's round of knowledge. Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! It's been a whirlwind of a week, with events like fourth annual NPSP Day Portland, my 15th Nonprofit Technology Conference, and an awesome Amplify party. Phew. Before heading to Africa for our second NPSP Day on the continent, I'm gathering thoughts after seeing some great community knowledge. For those of you in the Pacific Northwest that joined us for all the fun, thanks for sharing your time and ideas! For everyone else, here's a little snippet of that community knowledge, packed into this week's PUB Crawl. This popularity is largely due to one major benefit: its flexibility. Salesforce gives its users the ability to easily customize the platform by installing integrated apps designed to serve specific functions. The ability to quickly and easily add new integrated functions means that organizations can fine-tune their CRM toolkits in a way that was previously only possible through complicated and often expensive integration projects. For nonprofit organizations, building out a set of highly effective Salesforce apps can be a game-changer. After all, nonprofits rely on a particularly wide variety of tools to plan, manage, and track their operations. The fact that Salesforce can serve as a central hub in which you can build additional functions is a major plus for organizations that have made the move to the platform. I don't know about you, but it certainly seems to me that March is keeping up with its reputation of coming in like a lion. In the mix of everything March has brought to my doorstep, I've just landed in Portland, home of a trifecta of back-to-back-to-back Salesforce and non-profit community events. Tomorrow, I'll kick-off the 2019 NPSP Day tour, bringing together community members for the fourth year in a row in Portland! Meanwhile, there's a lot of great content that's been produced by the community during the past week. So while you ponder how March will exit this year, grab the perfect knowledge pairing beverage of your choosing, and pull up a stool to the PUB Crawl. Have you ever wished that you could wave a magic wand and increase your donations? That’s basically how it works when you leverage Double the Donation’s 360MatchPro, Soapbox Engage’s new partner in matching gifts. What are matching gifts, you ask? A matching gift is a donation made by a company to a nonprofit that an employee of said company has already donated to. So instead of one donation, your organization gets two! In this article we are going to teach you:
Let’s get started!
Out of the box, the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) offers nonprofits a powerful, scalable, and customizable platform for successful fundraising. By design, the 360-degree view it provides a nonprofit of their constituents and donors enhances an organization's fundraising efforts simply by adopting Salesforce. What is more, a nonprofit can further optimize the Nonprofit Success Pack for fundraising by leveraging existing optional functionality and adding in some customized elements of their own. Here are our top ideas for optimizing your organization's Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack instance for your fundraising efforts: A few days out of the office can seem like an eternity sometimes. I was greeted this morning by a whole new floor opening in our coworking space in Washington DC, and happened to immediately come across the following familiar logo. Nice to see that it's right near the coffee machine, helping all those playing a few games of Ms Pac-Man into the late evening hours can really burn the midnight oil while also building Process Builder flows. To help us celebrate our Salesforce friends joining us with new office space in our building, a toast with your favorite beverage, and another round of knowledge here at the PUB Crawl. For those of you who are young-at-heart enough to remember, sports broadcast in the US would pause once during a game for "station identification". To be honest, I really don't know why that happened, but it's ingrained somewhere in the recesses of my brain along with random Oakland A's baseball statistics from the late 1980s. I figured, after writing, oh, let's say 177 weeks in a row, that maybe it's a good time to do a little station identification for ourselves. Plus, I did have two conversations last week where someone said, "...and I didn't even realize you were the same guy that wrote the PUB Crawl." For those of you who don't know, between PUB Crawl newsletters, NPSP Days, burritos, and various airports, I live a second life as a member of the Soapbox Engage team. We're the folks that think you shouldn't have to raise money to afford fundraising software, and who believe every effort we make as a community together moves the needle in the right direction of social justice and a better world. So, if you feel like you should be getting more from your online donation, event registration, and advocacy software, I happen to know a team of penguins that would be excited to lend a hand...and maybe put a smile on your face. Alright, that's enough of a commercial break for 3.5 years. Let's return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress. Saddle up to the bar, and enjoy a fresh round of knowledge from your Salesforce community friends! Sometimes, working within a product as complex as Salesforce can feel like me walking through what was a week of blizzard-like conditions in the mountains (and yes, of course I did multiple whale dives into the 7 feet of powder that dropped in 72 hours). Luckily, you're never too far from experts that can point you in the right direction in the Salesforce non-profit world...and friends making guacamole in my world. Every once in while, it seems like a good idea to push yourself just a bit outside of your comfort zone. It's especially helpful, though, to do it when you have a massive support cushion to fall into just in case you make a wrong turn. That's pretty much what I tried this weekend, and I'm happy to say that when there's 3 feet of overnight snow, I was less likely to injure myself on the ski slopes and more likely to wear a few pounds of fresh snow on the way down. So while I tried to dry off in front of a fire, I had a chance to dive into the Power of Us Hub and curate some awesome content from the community. Enjoy this week's PUB Crawl! Any chance you've had the nightmare of not being even slightly prepared for an exam at school? You know, that dream that starts with you realizing that there's an infinite number of books to read and about 10 minutes to consume them all? That vision rushed through my subconscious while doing some college library tourism (long story) at the University of Kansas this weekend. You know, a typical Saturday for me. Luckily, the real-time reliving of a non-existent stress made sports watching a bit easier this weekend, though the coffee habit did help for a certain football game. If you're still snoozing through the Super Bowl...wake up, it's time to study! Join us for a much more effective, and significantly less stressful, learning session with your non-profit community friends from the Power of Us Hub! Where's the community organizing for 2019?" That's true, it's been a few weeks without taking to the air for an NPSP Day, but my friends, we're just warming up the 2019 engines for one of the biggest years yet. My fellow penguin teammates kicked things off last week by hosting the first Washington DC Salesforce Nonprofit User Group meeting in Soapbox Engage's new home, and we're ready to bring the community organizing spirit. Better yet, for those of you outside the Beltway (and North America), I'm excited to announce the first three NPSP Days of 2019, including a world record fourth edition in Portland right before the Nonprofit Technology Conference. So, grab your calendars, get those synapses firing, and get ready for a fantastic year of sharing. And now, on to your weekly dose of Salesforce goodness. PS: that's right, Justin Barss has appeared in a record 3 different PUB Crawl lead photo. Someone get that man an agent!
